That was a really 8) video, kept me on the edge of my seat to see ifn he could get that tractor out of there. Amazing what he did with that I wonder how he managed to get it stuck in the first place ..... :? A river can be pretty intimidating, one never knows where a pool might be.

Takes a lot of skill/knowing the machine and it's capabilities to pull something like that off. I though for sure that train was gonna go for a float down the river. The pucker factor must have been approaching dangerous levels   8)

Gold miners in Alaska were doing things like that to get to their claims back in early 60's when I worked there.

Edit to add. Notice how high the air intake is. They have the crankcase vent out of water too. When you get into off the road trucking it is not every day of the week stuff.

Can't find pictures of the off road stuff from that time but here is an idea of a small one

There were huge ones used for the DEW Line that had trailers 40 foot wide and 100 foot long.

They are ancient history just like i am.

Here is something more like it

We had Bombardier B12 sno-bus .... up in CFS Alert

Bombardier B-12 snow bus

the steering and drive train were from Dodge's .. v-8's ... lots of fun on the tundra up in Alert. In winter they had skis and in summer -- standard wheels.

My Dad worked on the Pine Tree and the Dew Line in Northern Ontario back in the 50's ... he had pics of some of the equipment they had up there.. sure would be nice to have them pics now.

Knowing your equipment and it's capabilities can make a big difference in a soft spot like a river or creek bed,and that operator definitely knew his and knew what he was doing.

Some of the pictures in the posts reminded me of a poster I used to follow on the Red Power Magazine website. He called himself the King of Obsolete, and made his living using 1940s era IH crawlers to haul supplies etc. in the winter time in Canada. If you want to read more about him go to his website at http://www.kingofobsolete.ca/
