Farmall Cub

As some of you have read, I attended a tractor show in Geneseo, Illinois today. Saw a lot of tractors, of many types. The rigging on the tractor below has me stumped. There was no one around to ask questions, so I'll ask you guys, if I may.

And a bucket. Is it IH, or home made?


And now the biggest question. How does all this rigging work? Is it there solely to raise/lower the bucket?
This may be common place with some of you pros, but I had never seen this set up before.

Looks to me like a good way to loose an arm.......an OSHA nightmare.

Guess I should have added, all the mechanism on the from appeared to be driven by a belt from the rear. Lot of moving parts. And no OSHA or MSHA guards to be found.

I think it's just a (really) early front end lift. There's a picture of one on an F-20 in one of my Farmall books with a bucket on the front. I always thought it looked dangerous and slow, but would've been better than lifting heavy stuff by hand back then, just as today...

On the front end loader. All the rigging is simply to raise and lower the bucket. Bucket is raised by the gearing. Lowering done with the brake located on the 2nd set of shafts.

Last photo, left side, 2nd set of gears from top. Left item, brake. Next item toward the right is some sort of implement to engage and disengage the gear driven by the chain.

Pretty cool.

I have used and watch many holes dug with a post hole digger like that. When it got so deep it kicked the auger out of gear and the cable would pull it out of the ground or berry the feet in the ground.

The digger looks like a Continential brand. cant remember who made these loaders ---Dad had 3 of these loaders at one time---1 on Oliver 70---one on
f-20 and one on F-30---they were only intended to load manure and not be used for much else---the brake wouldnt hold much more than that ! thanks; sonny

Thats look like one of those death traps in the "SAW" movies. Scary
