Farmall Cub

The Oliver 550 that I have been helping my neighbor has a seat in pretty bad condition. It has the pan seat that hinges (tilts) back. I rebuilt the mechanism with bushings and pens to take most of the slop out of it. Although the rubber spring is adjusted as tight as it can go, the seat still bottoms out. As for the question, Is it worth $70 to order a new rubber spring? Since I have "0" experience with an Oliver, I don't know how effective the rubber spring thingy is.

When the seat is working properly, it is quite comfortable. The rubber spring loses its strength over the years by becoming softer and more pliable. (at least the springs that I have dealt with) I have always popped for the new spring and that has solved any issues that I had with the seat bottoming out. There is also a rubber "stop" on the spring that sometimes breaks off after all the years of use, if this is missing, then the spring can't do its job. I hope I have been clear here, if not let me know and I will try again.

Thanks Tom. There is the remains of a rubber tab under the seat. Could this be the stop that you referred to? Can you describe it more or send me to a link for it? I have not seen one of these for sale; just the rubber spring. Or, is the stop a part of the spring?
