ford 631 workmaster

Postby Kirk-NJ » Sat Aug 15, 2015 12:42 pm

Winched this dead ford 601 series model 631 workmaster out of Don's (AKA NJ farmer)uncle's barn where it's been sitting for the pass ten year or so. Been working on it for the last month, although I did take a week off to go to the big ford/fordson show in NY. Save this one from the scrap man. It runs and look pretty good now and should come in handy on my farm. This is what it look like today.

It's rustoleum gloss cherry. The gloss cherry has more of an orangeish tint to it rather then the rustoleum sunrise red i use on the 8n's and earlier hundred series. All my tractors are workers so painting to keep the rust at bay.Hell half the fun of fixing them up is putting them back to work and getting them dirty again.

34HP gasser. One of the reasons I like the 600/601 series is that it sips gas and still gets the job done compare to my 800/801/4000 tractor.

Looking good Kirk!

I have a question about the decals and you might be able to help me out. My 601 series, 641 model Ford has the original decals and it says Ford 601 Workmaster (not 641). Did Ford change the decal to read the model at some point, as opposed to the series? I see them both ways. Thanks!

Early on in the 601 series the decals were model numbered on the hood. somewhere about 1960 they changed it to the 601 workmaster and 801 powermaster hood decals. The confusion between the series number and model number on the hood decal will lead non ford owners still scratching their heads.

Thanks for the info Kirk. The serial number tag is missing on mine, so I guess that hood decal will help me date it.
