Here's the story on this. I did a welding job for a guy and saw this Schramm tractor. I had never seen one. The mag was shot and it had been sitting outside for a while. Long story short a few months later I bought it and brought it home. Sent the mag to a mag place in Chicago, Illinois and it looked new when I got it back. It has a tag on it that read "U.S. Department of the Navy" the tires have U.S.N. stamped in them. I have been told by some people who were in the Navy they were used to tow jets and spin the impellors to get them cranked. I don't know if that is true or not. If someone can back that up please do. All four tires are non directional which makes since for being in the military. Had to make a new gas tank for it. The tow behind I was on craigslist and saw it a few years later and actually wanted it for parts. I bought it, it was locked up. I took it home and put oil in the cylinders and eventually got it running with little effort. It actually runs better than the tractor. They are both 160 CFM compressors, both are ugly but original. We ride the yellow one thru parades and people ask all the time "what is that?"

These units was probably used by the Navy Seabees on construction sites that needed air powered tools like jack hammers etc. Also in ship building and overhaul where air was needed .The data plate shows a 1978 year manufactured and I was in the Navy for 20 years during that time and never saw one.The air we used to start the jets came from a diesel powered air start unit with a 6 inch diameter hose putting out 40 psi.It took huge volumes of air at that pressure to roll over the air starters. My vote goes to the Seabees and ship building and overhaul.Nice find though, you could run a jack hammer very well with it.

The picture doesn't show it clearly, it says 1972. It is 160CFM @100 PSI. It will move some air quickly. Thanks for your input!

There's a Schramm Air Compressor Tractor on the local Craigslist. Didn't really grasp what it was. I had never noticed them before and now I've seen two in a week.
In case I guess correctly on what the next question will be....

All you need is sand, tank, suit and hose, then sandblast away!
