Allis Chalmers B Seat Question

Postby lyle11 » Tue May 23, 2017 8:45 pm

I inherited an Allis Chalmers B. It is located 700 miles from where I live so I can't just go out and look at it. It has a bench style seat. It was my father's tractor and I've drove it very little for years. The last time I drove it about 2 years ago it seemed like the clutch and brake pedals were further away than on my Farmall H or Cubs. I am an average size guy 5'11" but I had to scoot forward to comfortably reach the pedals. Is the bench seat adjustable with regard to moving it forward? If I converted to a pan seat, which I much prefer to a bench seat, would that provide easier access to the pedals? I will assess it better when I'm next able to check it out, but I am just curious if anybody else who has a Allis B has any information. Thanks.

I don't remember any adjustment on my '49 ALLIS B but I can look and let you know. It could probably be done with a little ingenuity.

Thanks Stan. I get on an H or Cub and don't even think about it but it is like this Allis doesn't fit me. I want to keep it, mainly because of the family connection, but I just don't like reaching for the clutch. Is the clutch position adjustable closer to the driver?

I don't think so. You could probably move the frame mounting closer to the steering wheel but then it might get crowded for room. Need any more pictures or measurements?

I'll drive it again the next time I am at my farm and see what I think of it. Another thing, if I recall correctly, is that it has no floor pan, by design I think not a missing part and I hate those openings where I want to put my feet. I have the Allis B and a Farmall H and only need 1 tractor bigger than a Cub. The other one will be used so little that I would prefer to sell one and free up some space. I much prefer the H but the Allis runs better and has been in the family for over 50 years. Thanks for the info.

No parts missing. There's only the cross tube for a foot rest. As far as which one to keep, JMO, I would have to think of a really good reason to let a family tractor go like the one you have.
