Loose Hay Loader

I think that I might get a hay elevator tomorrow for 100$ if I do get it what is the best way to transport it? I have a trailer but I would think that it would be too high for going under power lines. Can i lay one of these down? thanks for any help, will update on what type and stuff tomorrow, thanks again, jostev

The elevator we had was on wheels and when it was lowered all the way down we could transport it on the roads and had no problems clearing normal power lines.

I think that it's really old, probably on steel so would have to go on trailer or somethin, did you have it on the ground or a trailer? thanks for the help BD, jostev

If you're talking about the old hay loaders that is gonna be fun to move. You may be able to partially dis-assemble it to load it on a trailer.

You'll know better when you see it. If you have the means to lay it over and get back upright it will sure make things easier.

I don't have a way to get it down easy but upright I can use the Farmall C right or is that too small? thanks again, jostev

Been too long since I was in on moving one of them. As I recall, we loaded then tipped it down on the front side. You may need some blocking to make sure it is supported by the frame, not the sheet metal.

How far do you have to transport it? If it's nearby it will follow a tractor just fine... but you'll get some strange looks

The loader should easily tip forward to make it lower for hauling. In the olden days, they were often tipped forward by the wind. Not a big deal. There's an upper section that's adjustable with a hand crank that may make it even lower. It may help to remove the front wheels.

Are the ropes and slats in good condition?

I don't know the condition of anything, i am going to look at it today. it is about a 20 min. drive by car so a little too long to drive with the H, done it before but gas is way too expensive. I hope it's in good condition, if some stuff is missing will i be able to make some things thanks jostev

I went to look at it today and it IS an IH some numbers were K1529or 8 on the left hub and K1702. Does anybody know where to find some numberson it? and the only thing that is wroing with it is the wood is rotted going to hopefully put it on the trailer just as is. thanks for any help with the numbers, Jostev

got the elevator yesterday, the metal is in mostly good shape, front tires have been welded, wood is rotting away but most still there, does anybody know where I could find some serial numbers for it? I have some numbers but don't know where to look on the internet or books? thanks for any help, jostev

Sounds cool I have never seen one on steel wheels and I am trying to think of where there would be wood on is it possible to post a picture

How about a photo. I keep thinking one of the paddle chain elevators - I've never seen one with wood. Or, is this a hay buck?
