I have one that is in great condition but it needs a new engine. Has anyone ever put a Harbor Freight or other replacement engine on one of these machines? It has engine shut offs on both handles that I figure might be hard to connect to a different engine. Just wondering. I haven't looked at it at all yet. I don't use it enough to justify spending a lot of money so if it is not feasible maybe I can sell the parts.
Thanks

Re: Troybilt Walk Behind Sickle Mower
Not on a sickle bar mower, but on a Troybilt tiller with Tecumseh engine. It was direct bolt in.
For the tiller, the Challenger engine was considerably less expensive than a Tecumseh rebuild. At that time the Challenger engine was a tad over $100-.

I have an excuse. CRS.
