Rotary Weeder ?'s

Postby GAGoober » Tue Jul 11, 2006 6:42 am

I have a lead on some type of rotary weeder for a Super A. I have looked them up in the implements manual for Super A to see what was available. There it shows the device break down but I'm confused as to how many you might need of the No.6 or No.11 weeders. How do they attach to the 144 Cultivator frame and how do they function? To go and look at them is quite a distance from me so I want to be sure before I make the trip. The gentleman said that they have a shank and clamp to be used on the front of the cultivator setup but I've not seen that style in the book. I didn't ask if they were IH so they may be from Agri-Supply he just said that they would fit a Super A or 140.

Thanks

Here you can see two styles of rotary hoes for Super A. One is Lilliston and the other I don't knowwhat the brand is. There is also a picture from the parts manual of an IH A-144 rotary hoe for the Super A.

Hoe's

Postby GAGoober » Thu Jul 13, 2006 8:19 pm

D.H.,
Thanks for posting your pics of the rotary hoe's. I just got off the phone with the gentleman who had them for sale and we sealed the deal. What he described was really close to what you had in your photo gallery, four spiders ,shank, etc. What you have did not match the implement manual but IH made a ton of stuff and he did not buy them from Agri-Supply so I guess I've got the real thing. After I get them home I'll post pics. Thanks again.

What I should have said was "rolling cultivator". The ones that are in pairs are designed to replace convential sweeps. They work real well once you get them adjusted. You can even use them when it is a little too wet for regular cultivators. I have never seen any made by IH, but they mad a bunch of implements.
The rotary hoe on the other hand mounts in the middle of the row and is used pre-emergence and also while corn is still small. The idea is it runs deep enough to kill weeds but not as deep as the corn is planted. I am looking for a rotary hoe for my Super A but they are hard to find.
I hope you enjoy your new "toys".
