value of a 53 Super M

Hi all,
I found a pretty nice Super M for sale in my area, and i'm looking to buy.. How much would it be worth? Rough idea? Some info about it.. it is in good shape physically, restored or at least painted around 5-10 years ago. with a shwartz wide front on it, (i think the narrow front is somewhere on the farm too), one new rear tire, everything is there(lights, gauges, ect.) and a set of cultivators i believe. I dont see any cracks in the block, or any major problem.. I'm just looking at what it might be worth.. I thought like 2500 to 3000.. (i'm going to start low as possible, but i'm looking for highest i should go). Thanks.

I bought my 53 SM about 3 years ago for 2300 and everyone said I was nuts and paid way to much and got screwed. It was in better shape than you are describing.
I would not go over $2500 for sure for what you describe. remember tires have gone up in price 8 times in a year. I am thinking more like $1800.

Thanks for replying. We offered the guy 1200 last night.. He said it ran a 2 months ago, and they tried starting it a fews ago, and it was siezed, so he poured some oil in the cylinders.. They wanted 2000, but they came down to 1500, but we said the best we could do was 12... So we'll see.. Thanks again.

How did you come out? I think your offer was in the ballpark for what you describe (along with the unknowns). I sold a '53 last year. It was given to me about 15 years ago by my Dad. He was the second owner. I sold it to the daughter of the original owner. He traded it in to the local dealer when it was about 10 years old. My Dad then bought it to supplement his '53 SM that he bought new. They both had M&W kits in them for more power, power steering and both were/are great shape. Their serial numbers were 4 digits apart (probably came in on the same train car). Dad painted mine about 30 years and he restored his about 10 years ago. I got $3,000 for mine, but I had a very motivated buyer and I still have Dad's SM.

Those are real good tractors in my opinion. What hurts their value is lack of 3pt hitch. But let me tell you, install a saginaw and it will be one of the best investments in a tractor you will make.
