My grandaddy use to make these for me in the fall of the year I think.
I cant remember what kind of tree he made theem out of. I know it was a time of the year when the bark wood turn a lose . Does anybody know what kind of tree it was and when you can make them.
I am the oldest one in the family now. and nobody left to ask.

Willow, I think.

I have seen them being made but has probably been 60 years ago. I agree with George on willow and think that the bark slips off the wood when the sap is rising in the spring season. Dan

we used to make them from hackberry. pop used the wood for saddle stirups.
