Just goes to show ya, great minds thinks alike!

I still am amazed at how many members now belong to this forum. Wow. Hard to believe. Just goes to show that hard work does pay off. Dennis has created a real jewel here.

Yup, It is growing membership fast. That is because it is not only a great forum but also has the most knowledgable decent polite posters of any forums that I read.

I was thinking awhile back of having a contest for the fun of it as to who could guess the closest time as to when the 1000th member signs on. My guess would be sometime this coming september. :?:

Thanks for the welcome! I picked up a 51 Cub this past summer. It runs, but it had been in the weather so long that the transmission was full of water. Cleaning up the gears and replacing bearings will have to be the first order of business. Then while that is apart, I might as well....

Ike,

Welcome aboard! Glad to have you. We'll help you along the way whenever you ask.

Here's a picture of my '51 very early in the restoration.

Here's another picture after it was farther along.

Hey Dad: What is it with you and those black starters??? Has Maw picked a color yet? Last time I looked, PINK was the winner. Gonna do it, huh, huh, are we there yet?

Y.D., my son,

Black is the correct color for starters... if they have ever been replaced. I know they came from the factory red (or white), but I just like black better. I think it's a nice accent.

Maw's in a snit about the pink. She says she should have been consulted about the choices. She thinks she prefers the pale smoky blue I painted her Mercedes many years ago. She's still upset that I sold it... for more than double what we had in it. She also insists on white wheels. If I paint it blue, I da**ed sure won't do the hand rubbed lacquer thing!

She says she would also allow it to be red.

George:

That has also been a topic of discussion here with other Cub fanatics in my area. :? Some want them red and some like me prefer them black. My basic reasoning is because after over 50 years for the earlier Cubs, the chances of an original starter have become slim. Also, many of the originals if still equiped probably have been rebuilt at some time. These two considerations in hand, then black would have to be the "correct" colour. The chances of having a factory original would be slim to non-existant.

Sooo, to my mind, having a red starter would be out of place. Now this fits perfectly with what I have planned which is to paint the starter black.

Thanks for explaining it so well.

I also like the black starters. You have me wondering though which color the starter on my CUB is... The whole tractor is all one color (reddish rust) but I can't visualize that starter to save me. I guess I will have to go look. Dang, now I have to try to remember where I left it. :D I think it is in the west barn down the road.
Using that replacement theory does that mean that if I ever get around to my F-12 and F-30 that I should paint the hand cranks black. :D
