Cub low boy blade (L54)

Postby tobaccofarmer » Tue Feb 24, 2004 8:59 pm

I am trying to find a blade for my low boy? I guess the one that works with the lowboy is the L54 which has a few different parts, mainly different lengths than the 54 blade for the regular cub. Any help would be greatly appreciated! this is my first post here, Thanks in advance :D

Tobaccofarmer. You are correct in assuming the "L54" blade is for lowboys. That blade is designed only be mounted in the forward (front) position on lowboys. Whereas, the Cub-54A blade can be mounted in the front or belly postion with regular cubs. To see more info on these blades, I believe you can view the "operators manual" on Rudi's "Clean Computes" cub manual site. Look for a post by Rudi and click on his site by his signature. Also, welcome to the board..........

Cub Blade

Postby Dave Hull » Thu Mar 04, 2004 11:16 pm

I have the older version of the 54 inch blade for the early cubs. It is different from the 54A. I may sell it.

Hi tobaccofarmer

I have a 61 regular cub, about 2 years ago I purchased a L54 plow. I bought it because I thougth it would fit my cub. After reading this board a while I thought it may not fit my cub, so I called Tom at tmtractor parts and he had me measuring the parts that connect up to the tractor and he was not sure if it was for a lowboy or a cub. I live in N.H. and I payed 250.00 for it. It has the top extension piece across the top. I think it is missing one piece at the top that connects to the hydraulics. It has part of the decal on the lower frame and it says L54. If I could get the measurements of all the parts and determine that it won't fit my cub, I would be looking to sell it. I don't know where or how I will determine that, need some informatin that compares the two of them. Most of it is red including the bottom where the decal L54 is, however some of the other parts are yellow. Maybe someone can give me what I need to measure. It has been stored indoors in my garage, and was in an old barn when I bought it. PAUL K in N.H.

I thought Tom had most of the measurements on his "Leveling and Grader Blade Mounting Frame and Lifting Rod Comparison between Cub 54A and Lo-Boy L-54" page, along with the pictures. Seems like the length of the hanger that reaches down from the front implement mounting socket would tell you most of the story.

Lo-Boy Blade

Postby Dave Hull » Fri Mar 05, 2004 8:49 pm

Hey Tobacco farmer. My blade looks like it has most of the hardware as shown in the L-54 Loboy. I also have the bar to use for mid-mount with the fast hitch. Won't fit my fcub, let me know if anyone has interest, I can send pics. Very good condition.

HI ALL

I went and took some measurements, and it looks like I got a mixed bag. The front axle hanger is a 54A as it is 17 1/2 inchs long. The part with the spring is L54 as it is 24 inchs long. The part connected to the axle hanger where the two pieces form a v and meet at the end has the bend on one side that matches the picture of the L 54.I think what is called the lifting rod is L54 as it is 33 3/4 long. So it looks like it is all for the L54 except the front axle hanger being 17 1/2 inchs long instead of 11 inchs long. By looking at the photos you folks sent me, I don't think anything is missing just has the wrong axle hanger, so know I don't know what to do. Sorry for not being able to get those pictures myself, but I am not good with the computer at all and I have mental illness, and every day is a struggle. THANK YOU ALL. PAUL K. in N.H.

tabacoofarmer it looks like I have what you want with the wrong set of front axle hangers. I don't think it will work on my cub as is. Like I said earlier that it is red and yellow, well someone new less than me and bolted it together and sold it, or saw me coming and took my 250.00 dollars.PAUL K in N.H. :(

HI ALL

I guess someone with some talent could cut those axle hangers down from 17 1/2 inchs to 11 inchs and they would have a L54 setup.

Tobaccofarmer, before you cut anything, let me measure mine. If mine is (as I think it is) from a lo-boy, I will swap you parts as I have it mounted on a standard cub.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

HI ALL

I was wondering, before I part with my plow, does anybody know if I could use it on a regular cub for a grader blade whereas it is all for a lowboy except the axle hanger being the correct one for a regular cub? Would I need more parts than I have? I have descibed what I have in my posts above? THANKS PAUL K. in N.H. :?:
