Grab it and run like you stole it. I'm not sure if the A engine has liners, but I know a lot of people that have soaked them with Kroil and gotten them back up and running. If the mower is in usable condition, it alone is worth the $500.
If you cannot get the engine running, the parts alone would cover your costs.

I'm with Bill, providing all the stuff is there on the tractor, it's worth more than $500 in scrap metal. Providing you have the space, I wouldn't think twice about it.
I'd so what Bill suggests, get it home, pull the plugs, and fill the cylinders with Kroil, PB Blaster, Kerosene, etc.
It took me 4 months, but soaking a 2N engine loosened it right up and the compression was within 5% of what it should have been. It had just been sitting in a barn for several years, and simply needed to be massaged a little.
There could be other reasons why it's seized up; things could be broke, but you can easily sell that mower deck to cover the costs if you find out the engine is really shot.

The 113 and 123 engines used in the A, Super A, C, Super C, 100, 130, 140, 200, 230, 240 and others are indeed wet sleeved engines.
Agree--$500 is a good price even with a stuck engine.

Not hard to pull the sleeves with the right equipment.
John, in case you DO buy it, and the engine needs to be re-worked, including pulling the sleeve's? I do have a sleeve puller with all of the common dies for the different size sleeve's. I've used it on Ford's, JD's, etc and so far haven't found that I'm short any of the right size dies for the various sizes. If you ever need to borrow it, let me know and we can arrange something.

Right you are John, easy to work on, sonds like a parts tractor to me though. Rember the A has no hydraulics, If you are going to work it wait for A Suyper A. Now Where Did you say you found it.

I would just about guarantee that there is nothing wrong with the tractor. I bought an A several years ago that was froze up and I soaked it for a very long time and it never came loose. I ended up having to bust the pistons out in peices and put new sleves in it, but I had already decided to do a complete rebuild anyway. Now I have an A that has a motor that is just like new, man does it run, and mow better that anything else (even my cub). Dont part it out.
Of all the things I have lost I miss my mind the most!!

I change my initial reaction. It's a parts machine. You're better off saving your $500 and finding something that runs or at least rolls. I bought a Super A for $750, that started and ran like a top. It needed nothing but cosmetic work. I started the cosmetics and someone saw it and made me an offer I couldn't refuse.
There are tons of A and Super As out there. I'd have to keep looking if I were you.

I had a jeep 134f head that was frozen and i found out they continued to drive it with a blown head gasket. I bought the whole jeep cj with a plow for $50. I used the rose bud on my torch with 200,000btu's of heat on #3 piston and it finally came out with a 16lb sledge and a round block of oak. The block was perfect and rebuildable. My point is never give up on the stuck ones there's always a way.
My buddy uses blaster and has free'd up many stuck engines. I just tried some the other day and it works awesome too.

I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
