Just had to vent, but it was a rough day at the stables yesterday. One of our horses, Kansas, a favorite among the young students, had to be put down last night. The Doc thought it may just be colic, but when they performed the surgery they found a tumor had constricted his small intestine. Several inches of the intestine were already dead. Poor guy, he was only 12 years old. One of those 17 hh gentle giants. He will be missed!

I surely do understand, and I know how difficult it is for you as you watch your kids go through this. Spook was a member of our family (a Great Pyrennes), and when he had to be put down, my daughter Amanda came with me to the Vet. No one else could....
It was one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever had to do. I still feel it today and it will be 3 years next month. My sympathies for you and your family. Our pets and other companions for the animal kingdom, truly do integrate and become one with the family don't they

I share your sadness
It is always sad to lose a special animal. I also have lost horses over the years and whenever it happens it just brings a great sadness. I lost a beautiful young mare the winter before last when she fell and broke her front shoulder after a ice storm. I spent more money than I care to admit to trying to save her but in the end I couldn't watch her suffer any more. Just try and remember the times your horse made your heart happy.
