Farmall Cub

Guys,

I am in the office at the moment and a few of my peers are ordering up some tires for their John Deere projects. They asked me if I needed any tires for my Cub project and if so to add them to their order since shipping will be better with more tires in the order.

Can someone tell me what size I need for front and back? I have a 57 year model standard Cub.

OK, dummy me. I found my own answer here on the website. If there is anything unique I should know about tires for the Cub please let me know. Sorry for using the bandwidth when I shoulda looked firsts.

Hi Aviator, First off welcome to the board. I have not seen a Cub question asked here yet that someone didn`t have the correct answer to. I personally would not order tires until you check your Cub tire size with your own eyes. Unless you bought your tractor new or know its complete history someone could have changed tire sizes from what was original. :roll:

Third, glad to see you found the answers.

Fourthly, there is a sticky at the top of the board - for all new members to read -- good reading there. Will tell you a lot about what you need to know, where what you need to know is and how you can get to what you need to know :!:

These include such things as the ATIS FAQ's, the Best of H.L. Chauvin, Cub Info and of course the Cub Manual Server. The server can be accessed by clicking on the link in any of my posts, :wink:

Fifth - determine what type of tires you require - AG or Turf. Confirm the current tire size on your tractor now. Determine if these are sufficient for your needs or do you want to go up or down in size. Then you should be ready to order new ones.

Aviator, one more note. Before you blindly order tires, check Tucker tires prices on ebay. They are imports, but several people have bought them, and the quality is good. rear 8.3x24 is 235.00 for 2 tires and tubes including shipping. front 4.0 x 12 tri rib is 60.10 per pair and tubes including shipping.

I forgot to ask if Miller tire is more costly, I know some folks on here have got them from Miller. Some got new rear rims with them cause thier rims were in tuff shape, some from being loaded. PAUL K. in N.H.

Assuming you don't have a high-wide option, a '57 Cub would have had 8-24 (now 8.3) rear tires for standard equipment. Optional sizes were 7-24 (I think 7.2 now) and 9-24 (now 9.5). You should check the width of your rims to see what tire size might have been on it originally. The 8-24 and 9-24 tires were on 7 inch rims. The 7-24 tires might have been on a narrower rim.

The front was 4-12.

9-24 tires from Tucker http://users.vnet.net/jamhudson/pics/Finished%20Cub/PB190045.JPG Cost was not much more. Don't remember what total are diffrence was.

Hey Jim

I wish my 61 looked as good as the photo you posted. If that is your tractor, could you please tell me what you used for white paint on the four bar grille, looks great as does the whole tractor. Is it a 61 ? Paul K. in N.H.

I know the question was directed at the Jim that already answered, but I'll throw in my comment anyway. I have a '61 that doesn't look at all like his. In fact, about the only good looking part is the grill. I used Antique White as well. Mine was done with Krylon and I think the match is about as close to the original as you will find. There is so little white on the tractor that one rattle can is way more than enough.
