David, I don't mean top rain on your parade, but I don't think that is a '39. The '39s didn't have a starter, nor a hole in the clutch housing to put one, though an upgrade kit was availlable from IH after the starters became availlable. Also, until early 1940 the serial number tag was on the tin cover under the foot board that covers the brake shaft. 1939 serial numbers only went to 6743. I beleive I saw 5 digits evident on the tag.

I agree. There are a lot of later version parts on that tractor. The date code in the first picture looks like an O or a Q, '45 or '47.

Then something isn't right about that tractor. I don't see any of the '39 specific parts.

I bought my 53 Cub with a replaced front bolster from a 47 Cub. Serial number tag read like a 47 but the casting dates put the vast majority of the tractor at 1953. Not sure if those are interchangable on A's or even comparable to a Cub's front bolster, but it's just a thought.

Without going back and looking at the pictures:
- adjustable front axle clamp pins not welded
- front implement socket has cast in reinforced end
- hood and grille fasteners
- starter
- short oil filter
- ignition switch and mounting location
- serial location
- steering wheel
- pulley and PTO housings
- PTO shaft size
- pulley/PTO shield
- transmission date code
- drawbar

My hunch is 2 digits and the plate came from a Super A. The rest of the tractor looks pretty consistent as a later (post WWII) A. The seat supports may have been changed when the seat was changed.

I'm curious if this ever got bought - with all that info on it not being a 39, you think $400 would get the deal done for sure then.
