B Farmall Timing Question

I awoke this morning thinking about the timing on my B Farmall I recently re-assembled and remember reading this in the service manual.

The compression stroke can be determined by removing the no. 1 spark plug, placing thumb over the opening, and slowly cranking the engine until an outward pressure is felt. Continue cranking slowly until the D.C. no. 1 mark on the flywheel is in line with the timing pointer as seen from the opening in the bottom of the flywheel housing."

So, I go out and look in the opening and see the D.C. no. 1 mark on the flywheel but, I see no timing pointer. What am I looking for I am missing something

Yeah, a timing pointer! Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

The pointer is on the clutch housing cover that is bolted to the front bottom of the bell housing. If you have the cast cover (likely) it is just a rib cast into the cover.

Thanks Jim. The cover you speak of is not on the tractor but, is laying in the "parts pile" waiting to be primed and painted. I'll take a close look at it later, tonight.

That makes it pretty hard to get the marks lined up.

I guess you just turn it until the mark lines up with the pile?

I could push the pile under the tractor until it lines up with the mark.

Hey Donny, that is the top of a table, not the shop floor. My shop is the carport/garage and my workbench is the tailgate of my pick-up.

Well, today I finished the transmission (was waiting on 2 bearings) and mounted the finals to it. Have it supported for now with some axel stands and a 2x4. Going to have to re-think the 2x4.
I'll take some pictures and post later.

As far as your shop goes I would think the place you work needs some RED other than Honda

Think about this!!!

If you point your tractor east and west then all you have to do is point the
timeing marks "North". AHHH, just forget about the magnetic declination.
