Looks like the ride to NH was worth the time spent!!
I don't think the rubber bungie strap is period-correct though.....

Hey Dave
Nice work. Thanks for posting the pictures. I wanted to take some pics and post them here of my digger in action but like I told you everyone was gone on tour that day. Can I show my friends and family your pics and tell them its me?
Thanks for the manual as well. I'm sure that will come in real handy.

That was fun now wasn't it. Those are nice taters. Be careful now.. once you get hooked using the digger, you end up wanting to plant 2 or 3 times the amount of potatoes.. so resist the urge... NOT "big smile: You can always give the excess to the local food bank or to family/friends..
Looks like you had lots of fun. Do you have a cold room or a root cellar??
Btw.. apparently NB and most likely Maine has had the best tater crop in the last few years.. good sizes, no PVYN, vry little pink blot or heart rot.. so we is doing well.

That is funny that you mention about planting it bigger. Dad and I was thinking that next year we might plow up the whole field and plant some different types. Green mountain, Russets, Katadin, and some Reds. Three or so rows each about 200+ feet in length. We could sell the extras and recover some costs and help fund the Cub fund. Now that would be some good seat time plowing, disking, cultivating, and digging . We don't have a root or cold cellar, but the new house will have something. Next spring after Hope graduates we will be looking for a place of our own. If everything works out there might be another place for a NE Cubfest . This is something that Hope and I have both talked about doing since we have such great cub friends.

Not only does this stuff get addictive.. I find myself really resisting the urge to plow up another 2 or 3 acres.. but..
We plant at least 3-4 varieties.. Russets, Kennebec and Yukon Gold, and Reds. One year we planted Acadian Blue potatoes as well.It does provide for a nice difference. Russets make excellent baking taters, Kennebecs well they are great for just about anything that requires a broth such as soups, Beouf au Bovril (see Better Half Forum), or just table.. and the Yukon Golds.. make great Poutine or KartoffleKnoedle which is awesome btw..
