Cub Lo-Boy 154 trans engages, but wont move

Hello all. I'm looking for possible causes before I tear into it. 154 engages all gears. The trans shifts like it should, but it wont move. Yes the clutch and flywheel are turning on the trans. Clutch isn't the issue. I can engage any gear without the clutch, and you can hear just a slight amount of gear clash as it shifts in, and the tractor slightly jerks forward as you do this. I can rock the tractor while in gear and hear what sounds like chattering. I'm thinking it's the input shaft gear? Any ideas before I tear into her next week? Thanks all :wink:

154 tranny is the same as a cub tranny, except for a modified main shaft. Your problems would be more than an input gear (since there are 4 different gears that run on the main shaft to drive the other gears), unless you have a creeper gear between the clutch and the tranny. If you are sure the clutch is not slipping, I would look to a broken main shaft (rare, but has happened), or something in the rear end, or possibly a final drive top shaft being broken (been there). Time to pull the tranny cover and look.
 
I think the flywheel is pinned to the trans mainshaft. It is common on 154s for that pin to shear. also, a PO may have replaced it with a bolt, really not a good idea, and will almost surely shear again. If run loose too long it can ruin the flywheel hub and/or shaft. Check to be sure the shaft itself is turning, not just the flywheel.

Otherwise pull the cover and have a look.
 
Check the flywheel pin first, does the tractor roll in neutral? If not then pull the cover off the tranny you could have a broken fork and its in two gears at once. While the shifter may feel ok it not fully shifting. The only other thing i could think of is something is broken and jamming in the tranny or the pinion/ring gear area. I think pulling the shifter cover and the rear tranny cover will give you a looksee into it when everything else looks to be ok.

Found it. Bolt broke out of the flywheel hub, where it connects to the input shaft of the trans. Caused the flywheel to crack also so off to the dealer I go for parts. Thanks for the input. Figure for future info, I would post back.
 
There is a numbered lo-boy group on Yahoo Groups. There are some great parts resources there. You might also check with Dave Hull here on the list.
 
Ask our sponcers here first....if not I would go to Ebay and look for Hamiltonbob he parts out 154's often and has parts. I try to stay away from IH as much as possible because of the prices.
