Re conditioned engine

Hi All,

I'm curious if the re conditioned engines that Valu-Built sells are of good quality or not.
They sell these for $1338.00.
I wonder just what the diff in cost would be compared to having your engine bored and reconditioned, ect.
If their product is of good quality this route would sure save some time if the diff in cost isn't excessive.

Any thoughts??

Don't know aobut the quality of the value bilt engines, but I just had the engine on my cub bored, vlaves ground, crank turned, etc. New pistons, bearings, etc. I took it to the machine shop disassembled, and got it back the same way. Machine shop charge was $500.

with pistons, rings, bearings, and valves done. that's reasonable. just need gaskets and misc stuff. but you'll know it's a first class job.

AND, you get the fun of putting it back together.

Ron, The cost if you did everything yourself would be a little cheaper,than $1300. I don't know of the quality of valu-built. I guess the good thing about that is less down time if you need the cub in a hurry.My engine cost was about $100 for the crank turned (.010)$100 for .020 bore of cyl. I laped the valves. faced the lifters.Parts around $270 for pistons and rings, $100 for bearings. $50 for gaskets. new valves 'springs locks. guides $200 or so. Also it took me Two years. So the cost was not all at once.It runs great. Yes, I am a very good parts changer

I think that if you did everything that they do to the engine they sell. such as: new valves, lifters, bore cly, regrind cam shaft, regine crank shaft, recondition connecting rods , new valve guildes, new cam bearings, ect.

The price would still be more, but maybe not as much more as one might think.
I have found that dealing with a machine shop can sometimes be a chore.
I guess that boils down to finding a good one in one's area.
