What can be said? Looks awesome!
You must spend alot of time and energy putting these together. It is appreciated. I have been perusing them of late looking up part #'s for the Loboy. A great resource for sure. Some day, some where, probably at a show, I'll pick up at least the parts manuals.

Hey guys.... thanks for the compliments - I am blushing here

What I meant about comments, is more about functionality and use. For instance - for those on dial up- has it improved the ease of use, is it a quicker download as in page volume? Is it more funtional - as in can you access pages a little faster scrolling versus reloading, as they are stored in your temp folders after downloading? Does it make a difference to have them broken up into sections as per the index?

Same goes for the high-speed guys. Is there an improvement in accessiblity?

One goal was to eliminate the constant searching that was mind numbing with the individual jpegs. Easier for me to do, but a major pain in the posterior right?

So, does this format make it easier to search for an answer to a question.

I am going to be running another experiment shortly - it will involve probably 2 or 3 pdf files of different sizes. I will want feedback on those manuals as well such as download time, ease of use, searchabilitiy etc.

Thanks for all your effort for all of us.

An idea just occurred to me that might help all of us who are on very slow connections... Indicating which of the numbered pages contains the index.

By opening the index first, we can save our download time for only the pages we need at the time.

Usually, the index will be on the second page, but I gave up last night while looking for the index for the hillside plow manual.

I was looking to find a part number for the 189 part I have, thinking maybe it would be useful to you.

Ok, now that's what I meant. So I will try to address that.

In the HTML format, the index will always be in the set of pages contained in the Manual Name link.. for example:

In the CBI-1A Parts Manual, the index is actually Page 1, right after the revision pages. The revision pages are included in the scans when they are included with the manuals that I get. The reason being - some pages and sometimes whole sections are removed by IH for various reasons over several revisions.

Example: In Revision 12, Plow Bottoms are no longer listed, yet in Revision 3 they are still included in the manual. This information is helpful say if someone is looking for plow bottoms but cannot find them. If the revision pages are included, then they know which parts manuals actually have those particular pages and if the manual is on the server, which in this case it is, then the plow bottoms may be accessed. (the reason I know that 3 contains them is that I am actually in the process of redoing Revision 3 and happend to see them).

The reason I broke up the sections to reflect the same separation in the manual is precisely because of the fact that the index must be downloaded with the rest of the introduction section of the manual. This way, if one is looking for Plows-Disk-Tractor which in this manual indicates the Cub-151 and 152 plows, then you can go directly to the next page and download one of the two manuals.

I realize now that this can be an impediment, so I think what I may do is add a second line that will list the index page as a link and that can be accessed first. I have just uploaded the revised main page for the CBI-1A Parts Manual. Let me know if this is better.

Someone mentioned an index. Please have a look at this absolutely free software from a guy in Sweden called Jalbum: http://jalbum.net/

It lets you point to a dir and it will create all the html, and thumbnails letting you publish quickly and easily. Please see one of my pages here: http://www.metrotone.com/20040404_New_Tractor/index.html

It took about 30 seconds to make. Then just upload the dir.

I think Iwill try that software for a few things - especially the pic gallery. Will have to investigate it further to see if it will do what I need for the manuals.
