OEM SERIAL NUMBER PLATE

Hello

I want to order one of those replacement serial number plates from OEM, but there are three styles. The gentleman that blasted the tractor blasted all the paint off the old tag. This is for a 1949 Farmall Cub, model 1800, SN 93121.

OEM catalog pdf. shows, "New Style", "Old Style", and "2-Line Style".

Can you tell me which style to order.

Do the old rivets come out easily?

Do the new rivets fasten securely?

Any tips on removal and installinion of new tag would be appreciated.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it should be the same one my 49 used.

I believe, as John said, the early style is right. Look at the positions of the serial and RPM figures on your old tag. The positions will only match one of the first two styles.

John, lookng at your old and new tags a question comes to mind. The originals appear to have been etched or a relief added by some other means. Is the new one the same or is the black part only silk screened on a flat plate?

Jim' I had to get them out of the truck to check, but both of them have raised letters. I originally thought the rpm on the replacement was just inked, but closer examination showed the 1800 is recessed with ink in the numbers.

The only person that I know who really knows what serial number plate is correct is Bob Diener from West VA. he is a former HINSDALE Engineer and knows what each tractor uses.

I would have liked to look around a little more for mine, but at the time OEM was the only supplier's name I had.

Mine won't get installed until I go to Cub-bud's to pick up my cub in a couple weeks. If it stops raining that is. Afraid I don't have any tips, but I hope someone has some if there are any.

Over a year and a half ago I started a complete rebuild on a 49 cub I own. I was having health problems, but decided to start it anyway. I got it about 3/4 dismantled and the engine taken to the machine shop when my health got to the point I couldn't finish it. I put a request on the board for someone to finish it for me. I read several antique tractor boards, and all of them have good people on them, but the ones here are the best.

I started on the cub in Oct. 2002, and finally had to give up working on it in Feb 2003. It had been just setting in piles until Bud volunteered to take it on. Hopefully it will soon be running for the first time in over 1 1/2 years.
