Where is the PTO Site???

Postby badguygitr » Mon May 10, 2004 3:14 pm

I'm still having trouble with my pto on my 53 Cub. I replaced the pto shifter lever assembly and put everything back in place. The pto worked perfect ......until I hooked the mower belt up and put it under a load. Now the pto won't stay in. It grinds and jumps out just as the pulley is starting to turn. I have been searching this site trying to locate the page that tells how to repair the pto, but I can't seem to find it again. Any help locating it or suggestions on what my pto problem is will be greatly appreciated.............. :D :D :D

You have a lot of implements. Probably need at least one more Cub, huh?

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Badguygitr, I had the same problem with my 51. My dealer suggested one more thing. That was to replace the sliding collar. International changed the design of the collar so that the internal splines are at least an 1/8" longer and therefore it increased the amount of engagement on the transmission shaft.

Thanks Peter. I'll give this a try. It sounds like it will work.

I JUST RECENTLY WENT THROUGH THE PROCESS OF REBUILDING THE PTO UNIT. I BOUGHT THE PARTS FROM WENGERS, WHICH CONSISTED OF A NEW BUSHING, COLLAR, BEARING, GASKETS, SEALS, SHAFT AND LEVER ASSY. FOLLOWING THE FORUM DIRECTIONS HAD ABSOLUTE SUCCESS. SHIFTS PERFECT AND SO-O-O QUIET! ADDED THE MORE HEAVY LUBRICANT (90 WT.) ALSO THE TASK OF BUSHING REMOVAL WAS A SIMPLE TASK OF USING A METRIC THREAD BOLT THAT FIT TIGHTLY IN TO THE BUSHING (THIS WAS MEASURED ON THE NEW BUSHING) I THEN WELDED THAT BOLT TO A LONGER BOLT OF AMERICAN THREAD (6 IN.)
AND STARTED THE BOLT INTO THE EXISTING BUSHING INSIDE THE SHAFT. TAKING A RATCHET AND SOCKET SIMPLY RAN THE BOLT IN AND WHEN THE BOLT BOTTOMED OUT IT PUSHED THE OLD BUSHING RIGHT OUT OF THE SHAFT AND WAS THREADED ON THE BOLT. TO INSTALL WELD A SMALL BOLT AND WASHER ON THE BOLT AGAIN AND TAP IT IN UNTIL IT SEATS. NO DRILLING REQUIRED!
