Fixing drawbar bolt holes
Hi, Ihave a question about repairing several broken drawbar bolt holes where part of the casting has broken off. A welder has told me that TIG welding with a high nickel rod would be real strong, but will I have to take off the housing to drill and tap, or helicoil, or what's the best way to go. This is on a 49 cub that I just got. Thanks.

Helicoil repair
rjmac: I used a helicoil to repair stripped threads in a final drive housing about three years ago. The helicoil repair is still holding and is in good shape today. Dan

I don't know how many bolt holes you are talking about, but if it is more than 1 or 2, I'd bee looking into getting replacement final drive housing from a salvage yard. Depending on where you live, shipping may be a little expensive, but they are fairly common. You might want to check with http://www.jptractorsalvage.com or http://www.tmtractor.com or http://www.chowntractorparts.com
