Thanks Neighbors
I would like to say thanks to all who kindly donated advice to me......very helpful. Removed the top on "Maxine" and went to work. Yes, I had to give her a name......and I now know why you guys name them after women, They require a lot of patience, understanding, and love. Volt reg. tested bad, timing was off, plugs gapped around .032-.035, tube from block to breather blocked solid, silicone wires shot, points gapped at .015.....I am truely amazed this girl ran at all, much less as good as she did. I did a compression check 124-124-124-124, gotta' love that! Installed a new V reg, cleared tube blockage, installed new points & condenser (corrected gap), installed copper plug wires, corrected plug gaps, and timed her dead on. WOW.....what a difference! Smoooooth, and talk about an increase in power! You guys know some shtuff. Thanks for sharing. Oh!......forgot one thing. I took off the band that goes around the back of generator to check the brushes and that paper type material crumbled to pieces. What is that stuff for and what can I replace it with? Anyone? Thanks again, Rick Lahmann

Rick, get a thin sheet of gasket material to replace yours.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
