Transmission bearings. How to remove

I am rebuilding the transmission on my 49 cub. How do the rear countershaft and clutch/spline bearing come out? I am having difficulty. Do they com out into the transmisison case or out the back into the differential area?

What is the best way to pound these out?

after removing the shifting forks (careful of the poppet balls and springs), the clutch shaft comes out the front of the trans with the front bearing. the rear bearing on a '49 has two oil shields, one on either side. notice the lube hole in the casting for that rear bearing. after the top shaft is out, you can tap the rear bearing out the back of the trans into the ring/pinion area. i used a piece of pipe the proper size. you will reuse the shields, so don't trash them. the lower front bearing is removed out the front of the trans, watch out and put back all the shim spacers. you need to remove the ring/pinion assy in order to get the lower shaft / bearing out.
the bearings were best ordered from a Case IH dealer. they proved hard to match up in the bearing books.

How do those shields come out? I dont know if mine even has them or not. Nothing came our with the shaft. Also, does the lower countershaft bearing come out into the ring/pinion area also?

One last thing. I have what looks like a paper gasket the goes on the front countershaft. Does this go between the bearing retainer and transmission or between the bearing cap and bearing retainer?

The shields on the rear top shaft bearing will come out with the bearing. just insert a piece of pipe through the front bearing hole and tap the bearing and shields out into the ring/pinion area. look at the parts breakdown in TC-37 for the sequence of the front countershaft parts. there's an O ring and a gasket that need to be installed there. i used some blue RTV to be certain i had everything sealed up correctly.
