Wire harness

Postby Harold R » Wed Jul 14, 2004 9:37 pm

My effort to restore my '50 model to 6v is well underway. I have all components with the exception of a wire harness. Carter & Gruenewald list a 4-wire, 7-wire or 8-wire. I have serial #114646, which I believe was after the switch to the distrubutor. I will have front and rear lights. Which harness would be required?
Thanks

7 and 8 wires are for tractors with voltage regulater (as oppposed to cutout that is mounted on top of generato). 8 wire is for headlights that have a ground wire as well as the power lead. 7 wire if headlight only has one wire.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Well, it didn't have anything left of the original electrical system, not even the lights, so I don't know how it came from the factory. I assumed it had a voltage reg., so I got that. 2 prong push-pull kill switch, because it appears that the distributor on it is original. As far as a ground wire to the lights.....dunno.

The information I have is that the change to voltage regulator and battery ignition happened at 115403. Yours is pretty close to that number so I suppose it is open to some conjecture. Either way, your tractor would not have had ground wires to the lights.

The change from relay to regulator was ser# 187002 on the Farmall M

The Farmall H Ser# 340954

The Cub was late 1949 for the 1950 models

There are 7 different main harness's for the Farmall cub and Cub Loboy

I'd never looked at the H and M changeovers. Based on these numbers the M was done considerably before the others. The M would have been about mid-year '49. That H number is more than half way through '50.

Super A changed at 286222, which is also more than half way through '50. The Cub changeover was a few months after the Super A.
