So.. I figured I would post pics of the projects I am working on this summer so if any one else got the crazy Idea of build a root cellar or putting up a chicken coop, it might give them a hand.

Half of it is going to be the run when there not free ranging and the other half a garden. The coop per say will be in the middle and each year we will flip flop the run and the garden so we can have fertilizer.

I am REAL interested in seeing how that Root cellar turns out. Have a plan for my own, but always ready to learn from another.

Your idea of flip floping the garden and chicken run will work good. Mother said that is what her Dad did. Plus all the chickens scratching and pecking the ground will help keep out unwanted grass. Grandpa only put his vegatable garden in there.

I used Wikipedia to get the answer and the idea is pretty neat, although I have a basment with a tornado shelter that stays pretty darn cool already. I could imagine that the root cellar would be even colder if dug 8-10' deep. Does anybody here have pictures of their root cellars?

HA HA HA That where you keep your roots,:D You no Taters , turnups etc.
Thats how you keep them during the winter They want freeze below ground and will keep well

There is also a watermelon that will keep well through December in a root cellar. I hope to have Christmass melon and make it a family traditon. You can also store preped meat and if you gell coat fertile chicken eggs they will keep for 6months. Yep fresh veggies in the middle of the winter. I cant wait.

Here it is now..
We just got the roofing material so we will be putting that on soon.
OH .. I had to throw this one in. I have allot of new fruit trees and grapes and I found the culprits
eating my new cherries off my cherry tree.
now she gots to teach her sister to spit out the pits

Well the coop is still coming along.
and the footings for the barn are being put down.
and the beat goes on..
The forms were pulled yesterday looks good. Now the hard part... back fill.
