dimmer coil

Postby Jim Hudson » Wed Aug 11, 2004 8:57 pm

Jim, I was directed to you from an earlier post regarding the headlight dimmer resistor in the 4-position switch for my '48 Farmall Cub. The nichrome(?) wire broke and needs to be replaced. Can I use a simple axial leaded resistor from Radio Shack? What resistance and wattage? Do you have a part number and supplier for the real replacement part?

Thanks for your help.

Did I tell this fellow right??

The field resistor is Delco 1878070, 2.8 ohms and needs to be able to handle
something around 12-15 watts. The dimmer coil, Delco 814545, is 5 ohms,
probably needs to handle more wattage than the other.
If you contact maloybig@msn.com

He has the original resistors for the head light switch, also can help you
out on other wiring information.

Those are the correct Delco numbers.

Is the Delco 814545 dimmer coil still available, either as an original or a repro?
