JB,

The flatter topped air cleaner caps came later. I'm not sure exactly when, but it was definitely later than 48. Jim Becker may know when the transition took place.

:P Thanks Don, I will keep an eye out for a domed cap. Besides being the correct cap I like the looks of the domed cap better anyway.
Then came Bronson

Red would be a good choice. My 4 bar 61 will be white, if I ever get to it. Paul K. in N.H.

Hey fellas,

I don't think black is quite ready to concede just yet  My 8 year old daughter picked out the color of 49-1 and she says that red won't "go" with this:

One of those things that didn't make it into the article.

I don't have hard facts on it. My best information suggests the flat top cap came the same time as the short air cleaner intake and that probably happened in '54 when the hundred styled Cub came out.

I would like to vote but your color choices don't go at all with the color that you painted the cub with.
On the other hand I think I know why your daughter chose that color
Bigdog would not notice a cub painted that color he looks for red or white never purple.

PS: My daughter is on her way to your house to steal the purple cub she thinks I should repaint mine now see what you started.
If it's been broken I did it.
If its not broken wait till I touch it.

That looks like something out of a night mare I had last night. I thought about red, white, and blue stripes, but i like your idea better. Maybe Rudi will come up with a maple leaf for his.
