Magneto to Distributor Question

Postby WJ » Sat Aug 28, 2004 5:41 pm

I am want to swap out from a mag to distributor on my 1950 cub. I have a distributor from a farmall C. Is that a direct swap or do I need to change out some parts??

Thanks for any help.

The timing advance is different. IH made some timing changes on some engines, so these numbers may not be exactly right for all years. But my reference shows the Cub max of 16 degrees at high idle (1800). The most common version of the C is 30 degrees at high idle (1650).

I think the code letter(s) for each distributor are stamped into it somewhere. You might inspect your distributor to see if it is stamped. The Cub distributor is D, the C distributor I described above is J.

there are a couple of reasons. 1. I have the distributor on-hand. 2. All of the old-timer mag rebuilders in my part of the country are either retired or dead. Now for the the 3rd reason... The price.. :o :o :o :o
