need advice-farmall "A" = Good Buy??

Postby Former Member » Mon Aug 11, 2008 2:44 am

I was browsing late and came across this locally. I do not need it(not a cub) but If I could make a little on it I might could swing it. I am trying hard to turn some $$ to get a truck good enough to go to cub events with.

It is a non-runner but the tins look good, and I am also partial to the 152 disc plows. :D

My trlr is 6' wide, will it fit on there?

Dale,
Are all the 152 disc plows the same? Just curious if the one shown on the "A" is the same one used on the cubs? I don't have much need for one, but as you stated, I am partial to these guys. I think I may have the fever to own one. :{_}: :{_}: :{_}: :{_}:

Yes, it will fit on a 6' trailer. It's a good buy at that price but if you are going to part it out you may not get your money back for a long time. Is it an A or SuperA? If it's not stuck and the tires are good might be a winter project.

I don't believe the plows are the same, as the distance between the finals on an A is greater than that of a cub. It is a Super A, so worth more money, but if you are parting out, :Dito: to what everything DanR said.

If the motor is not stuck you can make a little off of the unit maybe more if you sell the plow and then the tractor. If it is a Super A you can make a lot more.

When I get there, how do I tell if it is a super "A" or just an A?

Dale it looks like it has hydraulics that would make it a SA if you part it out you should double you $
the plow is larger

It looks like a strait A to me. I think it has the small oval electrical box. The Super A has the dash built in to the battery box. There are a lot of parts that will sit for a long time if you part it out. Check those castings for cracks.

I go with the strait A. I don't see the TC quadrant.

If it is regular A, there should be Handlifts to raise the implements up/down. No handlifts either that I can see. I tried to blow the picutre up, but just to blurry to see anything with any certainty. The wheels are also set to their widest position, so keep that in mind for loading.

I'm not aware of any "152 type" plows made for an A or Super A. I suspect it is a Cub plow that has been grafted on. Who knows if it was destroyed for use on a Cub in the process. Given that the seat appears to be from something else and that the steering shaft has, for some reason, gained a universal joint, I would be skeptical about the tractor in general. It may not even be that good of a source for a parts tractor.

The picture shows so little of the tractor that it is hard to tell much about the condition. Are the grill bars bent or is the resolution of the picture messing them up? As has already been said, can't even tell for sure if it is an A or Super A (I lean towards A). I wouldn't follow up on this one unless it was clsoe enough to go look at in person. McMinnville OR to Crossville TN is probably too far to deal with even if most of the answers to the outstanding questions were favorable.

Dale,

There is you a disk for your Cub plow and extra parts to sell.
Best,
Mike

That is exactly what I was thinking Mike. But, while putting the $ together, it sold. Oh well, now I can start looking for another cub. :D

Well Dale, if you get really desperate for an A, or something to part out let me know. I have a good running A, a good running B, and a Super A for parts that I could fix you up with.
