OS-4 questions...

Postby CapeCodCubs » Fri Aug 29, 2008 2:24 pm

Hey Farmallers,

Looking at an OS-4 in pretty decent condition. Any input on value? The guy wants $2500.00 and it has great tin, great tires and according my dad the steering is tight and runs very well.

The guy claims the engine is the same as an H. I like it alot but what good things could it be used for? I know it is an orchad tractor, but what would it have been used for in an orchard? There's orchards all around me but the only thing I ever see being done is spraying and pruning. And of course harvesting fruit.

I'd like to post some pix, can I send them to someone...BigDog (hint, hint) and have them post them for me.

Chris

Chris - send away! The orchard tractors did just what you describe. They pulled sprayers and hauled crates of picked fruit to storage. They were designed to work around and under the trees without creating damage to low branches on the trees and also the operator.

Back in the day, a lot of tillage was done in orchards to keep weeds under control. I think now they just keep them mowed.

Chris, I have an O-12 which is a fairly primitive orchard compared to the O-4. Please post pix. Does it have all the tin including the bat wings over the wheels?

Chris

I would say that it is not a bad price if it is the shape you say. I was at a sale last Nov. and had a 04 it brought $4,000 and it needed some work. Jim is wright back in the day they did a lot of tillage.
