Coil Part

Postby mymariah » Thu Aug 26, 2004 11:21 am

Dad is overhauling the cub, and is telling me we need the bar that runs thru the middle of the coil. I don't know the technical name, and myself am not very mechanical - can anyone help me out so I know what part to order?

If you still have the old coil, use a piece of wood to knock the old laminated steel core from the old coil, and use it in the new coil.

If you don't have the old core you can get a new one from Mark.
marksmags@peoplepc.com - about 15 dollars.

Just wanted to say thanks to Tom at TM tractor parts - He made the effort to track down this part that the other internet parts people didn't bother with. Also, the marksmag never even responded to my request - so not sure what happened there.

Ok, help me out guys.......Why do you need the bar that runs through the middle of the coil. Doesn't the new coil have this. I guess I'm lost on this one, but figured I might run across this sometime.

Thanks,

The bar that runs through the middle of the coil is called the core and is sold seperately. I found this out the hard way. Another $15 bucks.

Then let me share my coil experiences with you for FYI. I purchased an aftermarket coil for $50 dollars. The core fit very tightly! It worked for 3 days and quit, no more fire. I have one on order from Case through my local dealer. Should come in tomorrow. Part # 396531R1 - $62 dollars.

If it's like the rest, I know it will be worth the difference in price.

Cubarama will be here very soon!

Coil

Ok, I'll use that number to order mine. Switched coil from my 53 Cub to my 62 Cub and it fixed my problem, so I guess I better replace the bad one. Thanks Ken

What every one is trying to say is that you only run into the (iron thing) core problem is if you have a magneto with an internal coil. There is a name plate on a magneto that says magneto. There is a big plastic cover over the magneto coil. If you have an external coil with a mag or a distributer system the core comes with it because the coil is a sealed unit. Perhaps some one that is more computer than I am could post a picture of each.

Thanks Jim. I knew that I had seen them somewhere but I suffer from CRS and can't remember stuff.

Postby badguygitr » Sat Sep 11, 2004 11:02 am

Well, you guys cleared that up for me. Yes, I have a distributor on my two cubs. I didn't realize that you were talking about the coil on the other. It was never mentioned, and for a shade tree wanna be mechanic like me...........ya gotta spell it out :D :D :D Thanks for clearing this up.
I would look funny trying to knock the center out of my coil :P :P :P
