Farmall H - 1940 vs. 1952

Assuming for a moment both tractors are in like condition, I'd appreciate hearing thoughts as to what is the preferable year from both a mechanical standpoint and overall investment, i.e. are pre-war tractors more desirable with collectors? Thanks

h was one of the most common tractors made in the US, so unless it is something special, such as very low serial, etc. they are not that great an investment. If one is a dual fuel with everything still there,, original manifold, shutters, etc. that would be a slightly more valuable one, but other than that, the one that appears to have the least wear would be preferable. If everything else is the same, the prewar would be a little more collectible, abut again, only slightly. According to serial numbers there were 41,734 made in 1940, and 14,639 in 1952.

Thanks for your response - very helpful. The 1940 is 'dual fuel', but other than the 2nd fuel tank, the other elements (manifold, shutters) are not there. Re collectability, what of that era (40's, 50's) would be the most desirable model?

There were only about 4,000 330 utilities made and the SM D TA is hard to come by

Don't forget, any Cub is Very collectable. Just ask Barnyard.

My opinion: Two reasons to own a tractor.
1) Work tractor. Or 2) Personal enjoyment.

As an investment, buying and restoring a tractor to make a profit, normally doesn't happen.
