My New Toy

Heres a picture of my new toy. It isn't the cub though. It is the stand around the cub my FIL and I built yesterday. I need to split the tractor and this is what we came up with. I was wondering if I should put wheels underneath it to make it mobile? It is very sturdy at this time without wheels, but heavy to move. We made it so the top beam is just unbolted from the uprights. This makes it easier to move from one persons place to the next.

You might think about putting flip up/down wheels on it so you can make it mobile for when you have no help & also be able to flip the wheels up to make the bottom stationary/stable.

I would if I knew how? I miss my hpphoto I could run that. I am just learning with picture trail. I got Stubby split this afternoon, I'll try to attach a larger photo on this message. My FIL and I are thinking about flip up/down wheels. We don't rush things, could take a year or two before we get the wheels done. Looks like a good setup. If you put wheels on it you will need to put some in the middle of each arm at tht floor, not just at the ends.

I bought
32 feet of 2x4x3/16.
10 feet of 2x4x1/4
10 feet of 12"x 3/16 flat stock.
Each foot and upright is eight feet in length.
The beam is 10 feet in length
These distances can vary depending on your shop.
It was rather spendy at $280.00
But divided out over many years and hopefully several tractors it is cheap.
If all else fails in the frames down time, it will make a great swing set for my son

Thanks for posting that. I was thinking about an I-beam across the top to accomodate a trolley/hoist. Might could fashion a roller for the square tubing. At $280.00 I think you did good. Good cuts and welds!!

Nice job I echo Harold's comments. If I can ever get the shop extension built, I think I just may build me one of your doo-dads for working on my tractors. Have a feeling it will come in handy for other equipment projects as well.

I think a set-up like that or a jib-crane would be an asset to any shop. Oh well, maybe some day.

Nice overhead gantry. Northern Hydraulics has a trolley that would work nice on the cross beam. Do you have plans on adding casters to make it more mobile.It would work fine in my shop along with the 140 patio deere. I just spent Saturday just north of here with some fellas that restore the Green garden tractors . There were 7 patios 1-140 Red and the rest were 110 and 112 in Red , Yellow and blue. along with the largest assortment of Brinly attechments I have ever seen. I hope to some day own a patio but they are a little out of my reach. So I guess I will have to settle for the red cubs. Steve

I have kicked around adding wheels, but the stability worries me. Plus, with wheels added I may have lower the uprights to fit in my shop( A shop is always too small). I have thought of adding flip down wheels or maybe wheels on one side so I can flip it over and move. But, it does come apart and that makes it very mobile.
Steve, I was wondering when someone might notice my '69 Spruce Blue 110!
Anyone who bad mouths in-laws doesn't have mine. I have been given by them a Junk Deere model E 1 1/2 hp hit and miss, a '25 Ford TT (work in progress), maybe a '24 T Roadster, along with that 110. The 110 came with a mower deck, yellow in color because they wore out the original plus two more after that, and a almost new patio snowblower. But, I am an IH man and so those procjects keep taking a back seat to anything red. Still looking for that cadet original that fits my pocket book and still allows me to sleep in my bed !
