Well I did  for the first time ever with a Cub. " No physicasl or property damage resulted"I started it up and rolled in 1st gear a little ways when it suddenly killed. I jumped off and headed for the carb because I forgot to turn the gas on at the aftermarket shutoff valve. Once I opened the valve I thought it would be a good idea to see if it would start before I moved ! BAD MOVE ON MY PART That is when I felt her moving over my foot and grazing the front of my leg  I quickly shut her off and paused thinking as careful as I try to be and rarely injur myself in any way , that could have been very serious had I been 1 step closer into the tractor or near a building or car or even a person. I always check the transmission before starting , Except this time and it got me !! My safety awareness is Very High as a result . Ouch! I'm very happy to say I haven't run over my foot yet.
But tomorrow is another day...
Good reminder to be careful out there!
Lucky it was only your foot.
Tractors are fun but dangerous, even our friendly little Cubs.
We (I) need to be reminded of that every once in a while.
Dad once told me the only time the transmission is in gear is when your butt is on the seat.
I had forgotten that until just now.

Glad your okay...
I had a neighbor run over years ago while starting his from the ground. he was lucky there wasn't any imps. on it other than the 22 mower. Maybe the weight of it hanging on the right side help save him. he was a big man and it smashed a snuff can he had in his bibs. He got by with a few broken ribs...

I too am glad you were not hurt. I have done the same thing, only nearly ran over a perfectly good aluminum canoe directly in front of the "fast" moving cub in first gear. You think first gear is slow, be standing by it and let it take off without you in the seat, and its fast.

First of all, Glad you are ok and not hurt.
Second: apparently you were not fully listening to Merlin and me when
we were taking about standing to one side when cranking the Cubs.
I have had you experience more than once. Takes an old fool like me
several lessons before learning begins.

I am glad that only your pride was hurt, considering the possibilities you are lucky! Keeping these safety reminders in front of everyone is a good thing as we all tend to take a short cut every now and then, hopefully this will pop up in my mind before I do the same!

haven't ran over mine yet but i'm not ruling it out. i try hard to shake hand with the shifter but all it takes is one slip. glad your ok.

I have not, but a friend of mine got drug out of the back seat of a station wagon and ran over in a McD's drive through once....
