All the information above would indicate that it is a prototype cub. That would explain the differences.

Could this be the legendary 501 tractor :?: :?: :?:
If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape.

Since 501 was the first off the assembly line, I think this one would be #500.

The date on the article is before cubs were sold, front wheels look different, and it's a little hard to tell, but seat looks different.

Not very well focused and would be nice if it was in color.

I agree with the above.....the date given makes this one pre-production and it is odd looking.....long and short. :? The distance between the tool bar and rear wheel is wide, the steering wheel shaft looks longer, the "gap" between the instrument panel and the back of the motor is large, suggesting the tractor is longer than production cubs. Also, the tractor appears to be no taller than the fence on the float.

Yes, the date suggests a pre-production tractor. The book 'Farmall Cub Photo Archive' has some pictures of pre-production Cubs taken even earlier, in 1945.

Mike has something sneakier in mind. Maybe it's the milk can that isn't against the front bulkhead.

I wonder if the float is self propelled? Which end is the front?

Decals are definitely different, and it's hard to tell from the quality of the picture, but the front rockshafts look a little different. Cultivator frame is unusual, and it looks like I can see daylight between the hood and the engine. Also Mag loooks different, or maybe a dummy. Wonder if it's a mockup rather than a running tractor.
