New Bird Dog

Postby dgrapes59 » Mon Jan 26, 2009 10:35 pm

My wife came with me to Nebraska a week ago when I went pheasant hunting. I have Llewellin Setters, she brought her Westie and joked about me taking him hunting. He was very interested in a bird when I was cleaning it, couldn't resist taking the below picture. He ain't a bird dog, but sure wants to be... but is a great companion, always gives us a reason to smile. (made my wife happy posting for others to see :D )

I got my first Llewellin setter, Rudy, from a guy from IL that I met at work 13 years ago, he has been a family member and a great hunter. He would literally hunt until he dropped if you let him. I got my second one from a guy outside of St. Louis, he has been great, but in different ways, guess they are like kids, each has their own personality. Rudy is not doing well and I am dreading the day I have to make a hard decision. The guy I got Rudy from bought 2 Llewellin setters from a breeder in PA somewhere. They are around, it is kind of funny when someone recognizes them.
