Is the jointer on a moldboard plow necesssary for proper operation?
Mine is missing on my 193 plow and I would like to have it operating for springtime. Thanks for the help. Bob Roraback

Bob, the jointer is not a necessity. Even a coulter isn't an absolute necessity but both will result in cleaner turnover of the soil. There is no reason you cannot plow without one.

Here is the unknowlegable (ignorant) city boy again. A coulter is a round disc ahead of the plow to cot the soil and trash but what is a jointer? In wood working i know.

Bill, check the pictures at the link below. The jointers are the "mini moldboards" next to the coulter disks. They aid in turning over trash.

I had to take my jointer off at plow day, bean stubble held on it .
Ground was very dry and compacted --no till for 4 yrs.
