Great choice! A simple spacer will lenghten the stock if it is too short for you.
Best,

I got the perfect rifle for you!!

get a .308....Minimum recoil and light weight. Shoot far and does the job. My wife loves it and my 12 y/o boys shoot it well and like it too.

All listed are great but if you are looking for that all around perfect rifle, then I ould suggest a .308...Remington Model 700 or the cheaper model but stilla great rifle is the model 710 remington. These two models come in an assortment of calibers ranging from .223 to .338.

You can't go wrong here!!

I shoot an odd ball round that I think has all the makings of a good all around riffle. I shoot a 260, it is a necked down 308.
It is a flat shooter with little recoil and lots and lots of punch. I shot a 275 pound mule dear two years ago at 180 yards and knock that guy clean off his feet. He thrashed around a little but could not get up. I also shot a 180 pound mule dear
At 150 or so yard and knock that sucker off his feet too.

The riffle is a Browning Medallion A bolt, light weight and compacted. It is a great gun.

You could try this:http://www.frikid.com/showVideo.php?lid=1207....... It will take out pretty much any critter that moves  .......... on the other hand, the recoil might be a tad on the heavy side

go with the 270. fail safe bullets hollow point nice range and great knock down with a little kick. kick isn't bad in a game kill but is a good lil thump in target practice, that'll make you respect it. i'll throw props out to BROWNING, i shoot one with a Buasch and lomb 3x9x40 scope and i have shot a beer cap at a hundred yards. the shoot was just a tick to the right but close to center. :big afro:

The 30-30 lever has probably killed more deer to this day than all the other calibers added up. It has to be one of the most popular deer rifles too. The 30-30 has also taken many blackbears too. Second to the 30-30 would be the remington 35 in a lever action too. I'm sure you can find these used in good condtion too.

The surplus military guns in 6,5mm swede and in 7mm mauser also make great hunting rifles too. They use the 6,5mm swede in europe to hunt reindeer and moose. The 7mm mauser is one of the most flastest shooting rounds there is. Our 30-06 was copied from it. These two have very little recoil and the 7mm mauser has a lot of power too. Both are very accurate rounds too.

The russian mosin 91/30's in 7,62x54r can still be found at around $100. These are also good guns too. The power is between the 308 and 30-06. You can buy the 203gr soft point bullets for under $10 a box(barnaul). For a military surplus buy this is hard to beat and can put meat on the table at a very affordable price too.

Another good buy right now is the swiss k31 in 7.5swiss. Its a very accurate swiss quality rifle and it has a straight bolt pull thats smooth like a swiss watch too. Power wise its like a 308 too. This baby will shoot 3/4" groups at 100yds using the swiss surplus GP11 ammo. This military ammo is like match ammo because the quality is so good.

I would checkout the local gun or pawn shop too and look closely at the used rifles. I would bring a bore lite or a penlite to inspect the bores. Just look for sharp corners on the rifling and make sure they have no pitts or rust in the bores too. On the military guns make sure the numbers all on the bolt ect. match the serial number too.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

I agree that Savage is one of the best "bang" for the buck (sorry, couldn't resist) very wll made, accurate, won't break the bank. Otherwise one of my favorite rounds that goes way overlooked is the 25/06 Less recoil than the 30/06 Still can't beat the good old 30/30 either!

Your right the 25/06 is very popular with deer hunters too. So is the 243win too.

So many choices..........

I shoot a 270, but will admit that on shorter shots, it can obliterate a front shoulder. I now try to make neck or head shots just because of that.

If i were doing it again, I'd give serious thought to the .243.

There is also nothing wrong with the 30-30 mentioned, as well.

Get a 80 dollar Mosin nagant 7.62x54r you can get the carbine version or full size pay for the extra for handpicked and buy 1000 rounds of bulk ammo. If you want to you can get the sniper version, 6 inch group at 600 meters is not bad but you will pay closer to 700 for a original or 500ish for a clone.
Bolt action and pretty good accuracy. Only use soft tips on deer btw.

shop around till you find a deal your comfortable buying ... i wanted a 270 or 30.06 but settled for a 300 short action ultra mag by Ruger model 77 because it was on clearance at a local gun shop for what i thought was a good deal.. it could be said its overkill for deer rifle but the price was right? i also have a 30-30 that i like to hunt the thick woods with it has no scope and is short and sweet to carry..

good luck
when buying a gun the only bad decision is to just buy ONE!!!!
