Thanks friends for your help !! couple of minor bugs still.

Postby Galen » Sat Nov 13, 2004 8:58 pm

I wanted to thank everyone who helped me with my electrical situation-rewiring my cub. Yes it started right up after I went through each connection.

Only 3 minor issues still
1) head lights - one is out, could it be the ground?
2) is a ground wire required from the light swith to tractor ?
3) carb is dripping gas! how do you adjust it such as idle mixture and speed and why is it dripping??

Thanks Again, GAlen

1- If your light switch is 4 position for control of chargineg yes, if 3 position, no.

2- May be ground. If it is the old tear drop style there is a strip of copper foil with teeth that contact the reflector to provide ground. I had one on Missy that the bulb was bad, but could not see break in filament. If lights only use one wire, rust or paint under mounting bolt can prevent good ground.

3- float may be set to high, dirt under float valve, or need a new float valve.

P.S. are you the same Galen that sometimes sells steps on Ebay?

Galen:

John, BigDog and some of the other more qualified can help you with the electricals.

For the carb, well the very best help would be on the Manual Server. Lurker Carl's Carb Fixes should be a great help in solving the carb leaking problem.

The carb dripping gas most likely will be the float or the needle and seat. Carl's articles deal very well with these. Also, The Best of H.L. Chauvin may also be of help. His articles are humourous and well written and have been an invaluable source of info as I muddied around in these carbs.

As for adjusting the carb - the large idle screw should be turned in completely then backed out 1-1/2 turns only. Then the idle screw on the throttle body shaft is used to adjust the rpm. Use a Tach/Dwell meter similar to the SunPro. The engine should be idleling somewhere between 450 and 600 rpm. You will know when you get the sweet spot.

Hope this helps some.

On the headlights, check to see if you have voltage to the light that is not working. If you do, either the ground is bad for that light or the bulb is burned out. If no voltage, trace the wiring back to the source.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
