Was the snap ring still dancing around the shaft?

The snapring was gone , I think it was one of the broken parts that flew out when the clutch scattered! thanks; sonny

Cant get snapring or shims for the pto clutch.-----also its NOT an IH part, and they will only sell the whole guts as a VERY EXPENSIVE kit,--SO its back to mowing with the Deere 262!---I now have a 185 without a pto and still have the hyd leak, but I think I found where it is coming from,--might as well take some more of the tractor apart and see if I can get into where the leak is. thanks; sonny

The snap ring is a spiral ring that is carried by McMaster-Carr as are the wavy washers and shims. I replaced the spiral ring with a regular external circular clip from Lowes.

Sonny do a search for Hamilton Bob on eBay, he has parted out tons of these Lo boys and maybe he can set you up with some good used parts. Just a thought

I know for sure that the wavy washers are weak/worn, and some of the thin shims are either missing or gone.----The snap ring is gone that holds it all together on the shaft.----185 dont have the threaded nut that the 154's do, so its a little different and I will have to slide the parts that I have left onto the shaft and see what the end space needs to get the right tension on the wavy dudes! thanks; sonny

Hi Sonny
You can bring your shaft to Home Depot and get a snap rings that will work on the 3 places on the shaft that use a clip, even the end where there was a spiral ring. Put the clutch back together following the Manual. The wavy rings do not go "Bad" unless they break. Use 1 flat ring and one wavy ring between the clutch plates. Finally, be sure you use enough rings at the end to get 50 Lbs. from a torque wrench. The manual tells you how to do this. Do not go over 60 Lbs. or the excess pressure will shorten the PTO life. The bottom line is your parts are probablyu good, the end snap ring probably failed.
Good Luck
Hamiltonbob
