With the field un-grounded there is no reference point for output voltage. There will be no output. The voltage regulator controls the grounding of the field. It appears your generator is functioning correctly - look at your regulator.

All the following statements are just my beliefs, not absolute facts. That Chrysler generator is not Delco. It will not work properly with a Delco regulator. It may be an Autolite generator. I suggest using a regulator for the specific generator.

Trying to get to a couple of shows today. If time permits< I will swing by my shop and look for info about the Chrysler generator. Any idea of the year car for which it was original?

My literature indicates that Chrysler did use AutoLite for the years 1946-1956, probably other earlier and later years also. If your generator has a number tag, if it starts GHM or GJC, it is a 12 volt unit. But in any event, the Delco regulator will not work.

it starts with ggw and from one website I found it is a 6volt unit and the regulator I hooked up would work if I took the cover off it. then it quite but then I had pulled it from my 100 because it didn't work there either.
