Goats

Anyone have goats now? I have 3 goats (2 pygmy and 1 pygmy boar) the goats are pretty funny to watch i made them a chainlink fenced yard and
put a few small boulders to play on and had an old dogloo that i gave them to play on also.. they are within sight of the house and are really a good time to watch their behavior as the are kinda crazy.. when i was putting in one of the rocks with the quad the one goat jumped on to it and was starring at me like waiting to get scolded!
anyone have any goat stories or experiences

i've got a billy, a nanny and 2 kids right now, all pygmy. i like them a lot, just make sure you fence is secure, i had a pitbull attack my billy 2 months ago. here is the story. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=36576 if you want to check it out.

i would like to try and milk my pygmy goats but unfortunatly was told the need to get pregnant then keep milking and don't have a billy
right now

i used to milk my goat when the children were young. my nanny i have now might get milked ,depends on how she acts. i'll have to build a milking stand from memory, which should be fun. udder wash from tsc and milk filters.keeping her clean and on a nice hi protein diet will do the trick.i actually had so much milk that it was going bad. she was a french alpine really good milker and tasty milk to boot. i have a guy i buy my raw milk from,but there is no more goat milk until spring,after kidding. yup i will milk her if possible cause at $6.00 or so a half gallon it will be worth it. just has to be done everyday like clock work.no missing milking it can be very painful to the nanny if you try to skip on her and there aren't any kids on her.

my question is will my goats only get milk after kidding?

my goats are very funny they run and play like kids most of the time. cool part is we can watch them out the window of our house!!!

for pygmy goats, i do believe they will milk after kidding. they are not really milk goats. there are certain breeds that produce a lot more milk. i haven't milked mine and if i did it would only be for the fun of bottle feeding the kid goats.

i'd drink it but i don't think i could get the the nanny still enuff to milk her.

The only problem with milking a pygmy goat is. You won't get nough milk from goat for a tall glass of milk. If you wan t milk you need a milking breed.

was told you should get between 1.5 and 2 qts a day that would be fine by me!!!
just like getting something for nothing already feed them everyday for nothing but to watch

read alot on internet from a bunch of different people they say the butter fat content makes the pygmy milk taste like some of the best
if i milked 2 goats that would be almost a gallon a day don't think we could use that much in a day

kevin you might want to check into the things that you can do with the milk like making cheese and yogurt. i say this because if you don't have an outlet for the milk it will go bad on you.maybe you can freeze it which i will be looking into. after they are bred in the fall your not going to be able to milk them much more, unless your willing to really put a strain on them. do to they will be eating for two or three and milking them while their in gestation would be in my opinion just a little bit to much. i had a really good alpine and believe me just the one was a bunch of milk. if i find an alpine ,which i have leads out on right now, i would prefer milking that over my existing nanny. will keep you posted on this and when i build the milk stand i'll get pictures on here.

goat milk is going for $11.00 a gallon here, that about does it, i'm looking for a milker.
