International "Cub" Power Unit

Greetings to everybody.

I recently purchased a International Power Unit with a cub engine. I am unable to clearly read the metal identification tag as the engine had previously been sandblasted, including the metal tag. What is the model of this Power Unit? On the metal tag there appears to be two "Model Number" letters, the first letter being a "U" - I cannot identify the second letter. The casting on the block just below the carb includes the letter "W" which indicates that the engine may have been manufactured in 1951. The Serial Number appears to be "UCUB-2101" but again it is faded and I may be wrong.

Casting letters U & W were both used in 1951 so it looks like the motor is a 51. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. What I really need is "Model Numbers" (in this case letters) as I need to track down an Operator's Manual for this Power Unit.

Jim Becker or Mike Schmudlak can probalby give a definite answer, but I believe the model number would have been U1.

What type radiator grill does it have. The ones that I hsave seen that were stationary power units had a grill silirar to that on a cub. Those on threshers had one that was a square boxy cover with holes like a cooks colander to drain spagetti.

If it was a stand-alone power unit, early ones were U-1, later were UC-60. I don't know when the designation changed, but probably after '51. Don't know if other desifnations were used.

Other versions on combines, balers, third party equipment etc. may have had different designations.

Les PM your snail mail and I will send you a copy of the UC 60. I was lucky enough to have some one send it to me when I inquired about my thresher Power unit.
