Can anyone tell me what years had the long eared dashes and also when did they switched from mag to coil? My '48 has the long ears and my '49 does not. Was '48/'49 the cut-off for the dashes? My '50 has a mag and my '52 has a coil. What did a '51 have? Is there a site that shows the changes made for each year of the early cubs? I checked on TM and they didn't have the years, unless I missed something. Thanks
Rick

Rick, I have a 49 with the long eared dash. Serial number is 681XX. I am thinking that the switch to battery ignition was late 50. Jim Becker should be able to tell us pretty close.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

The dash change to short ends was at 75926 or possibly 75936 (mid-'49). Documents disagree with each other on the exact serial number. Battery ignition came available at 115403 (mid-'50). Technically BI was an option but I think largely in the sense that any electrical equipment was an option. I would expect virtually any tractor with a battery to have had battery ignition after that point.

Thanks Bigdog and Jim. I've been looking for a '47, so the first thing I look for is the long eared dash and mag. There has been a couple of tractors for sale with claims of being a '52 and '53, yet have the long ears and one had a mag. What would be the best way to make sure other than finding the letter Q on all the production codes or isn't this reliable? I see a lot of lower radiator castings for sale on Ebay with the tags still attached. Thanks
Rick
