What do you fish for????

Postby BigBill » Thu May 21, 2009 6:53 pm

I started out many years ago fishing every spring for trout only. Then recently about 8 years ago i started fishing for large and small mouth bass with awesome success. But with latching on to some bigger Pickerel (25" to 30") inbetween the bass i'm looking forward to going for Northern Pike soon in one of our local spots that has them. With this said i'm also interested in fishing for Muskies too. And to think i was only fishing for trout for all these many years.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Monster catfish. Big bait, big hooks, long times between bites. Very relaxing.
Best,
Mike

Cubs. Normally, I don't have to get wet to catch one. :) :)

Large mouth bass in my own 3 1/2 acre pond. When the bucket is full time to stop and start supper. LIKE BASS with my eggs in the morning too.

Haven't been in a while, but absolute favorite is wading up creeks fishing for bass. Most creeks around here average about 4' deep x 20' wide with steep banks overgrown with brush. Wading in the middle casting to the banks where logs and other debris make habitat. Good stuff!

Hey y'all,
Just signed up on this site today, mainly for the Cub Forum, and couldn't resist chiming in here. My buddies and I fish year round as long as there's no ice on the water. That's where I draw the line. Most of the time we're fishing from canoes or kayaks. There are so many options here in Central Va. Tidal and non-tidal rivers of all sizes, large impoundments, small ponds. We go for largemouth, smallmouth, pickerel, you name it. In the spring, we target shad and striped bass during their spawning runs. You haven't lived until you've caught 50 or 60 hickory or American shad on a fly rod. Drive 2 hours west for stocked and native trout fishing in the mountains. Drive 2 hours east for saltwater kayak fishing on the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Man, I love it here!

When fishing alone. Catfish. Trotline fishing if I want to put fish in the deep freezer.

When I take the young relatives fishing we fish for pan fish. Catch lots of fish, no long boring waits. Today. 7 year old grandson and I went fishing in neighbors pond. Caught 7 or 8 bass weighing around 1/2 to 3/4 lb in about an hour.
I have an excuse. CRS.

We have to watch the rivers here too they have taken many lives in the past. One river has a dam that opens when ever so if your fly fishing wading in it beaware it can come up at any time. Plus there are deep holes to worry about too. Once those waders sill up its over. I try to stay on shore as much as possible here its safer.
