Now that I have your attention. A family history story Mom related.
Grandpa purchased one of the first tractors in the area. The farm was divided by railroad tracks. Grandpa parked his new tractor on one side of the tracks, walked across to do something. When he returned his new tractor was gone.
Couple of years later there was a commotion outside the house. Outside was a neighbor. Neighbor explained that he hadn't slept well for a couple of years. His conscience was bothering him because he stole the tractor. The tractor had been parked the whole time under a hay stack. Grandpa got his tractor back and a calf as restitution.

Re: Stolen Tractor
An unusual ending to the story. Was the tractor used by the neighbor or was it kept hidden? Dan

Re: Stolen Tractor
I doubt that the tractor was used or even moved once it was put under the hay stack. Being one of the first tractors in the area it would have stood out like a sore thumb. A new tractor would have cost upward of several hundred dollars. At that time several hundred dollars would have been a hugh sum. I assume Grandpa had all of the neighbors on the lookout for the tractor as well as the sheriff.
Farmers used to have a structure using telephone like poles as posts. The sides and top were covered with hog tight fencing. Part of the south wall was left open so that livestock could enter.
Farmers would thrash, covering the entire structure with straw. The structure provided livestock shelter from the weather.
Any way, I'm assuming this is the type of hay stack where the tractor was hidden.

Re: Stolen Tractor
Cool story...I'm trying to picture in my mind how cool it would have been to have the first tractor in the area....and how it must have felt when it was gone....I would have been tracking that sucker by the tire tracks.

Corky
I found this old Cub, Forgotten and Forlorn,
With pistons and valves frozen and worn.
Help from my buddies on Farmallcub.com,
And an engine from Ralph, (37’s the one),
Now ole Corky is running and back to life,
Much to the surprise of my dear, dear wife!

Re: Stolen Tractor
It seems people who steal think about getting it first then its what am i going to do with it. Of course your neighbor had stealers remorse and plenty of sleepless nights too. Call it an act of GOD or Karma either way you got the tractor back.
In my old neighborhood you couldn't leave anything outside or it would disappear you could bet on it. In my new neighborhood i'm moved in with the good old boys and i believe if they catch you the'll shoot first.

I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
